Frequently asked question
It's only natural for storytellers to want to explore themes and issues that are not within their lived experience, be it out of curiosity or the simple misconception it's an easy way to get funding.
The reality is, navigating stories about minority groups is no easier to get any kind of funding, and to gain any kind of authenticity you need to make sure you are collaborating with the group you want to write about.
As a First Nations consultant, my goal is to make sure you get an authentic story by helping you find the right collaborators from the right communities or whatever else might be needed to ensure you tell an appropriate story.
Sometimes your script is just in the early stages of development, and you're not sure about how the story feels. You just want to get some feedback on the vibe so you can keep on working without a million notes.
That is what a Beta Read can offer. Just some general feedback on if your project has legs.
